Although I have other creative projects (mostly personal) that I’m still working on, I hope to have a working outline for Hellhound by the end of the month. At the moment, I have quite a few scenes I think need to happen, and some others that I just want (largely action set pieces), but they’re nothing like a useful summary of the plot. (I have a summary, but not one that is a useful overview of a long-form plot.)
My priority is to make certain that the romance story for Becky is working. I know a few things about her love interest, but nothing is set in stone yet, and I want to be very sure that I’m making this part of the novel fun, compelling, and plausible. Moreover, there are other plots to worry about: the general plot of the story itself, as well as the arc for each POV character who’s not directly part of the romance (as of now, I still think there are five total POVs). It’s a complicated story, but this is the one I have been working toward almost since I finished Tamed Hearts, so I’ll be working on it until it’s done, however long that takes.
I’ve also settled on a ‘next project’ and started a document with a few ideas. After this super-serious werewolf story with the fate of a whole city hanging in the balance, I decided I’m going to need a project with a little more levity. So I’m going to tackle ‘Crazy Cat Lady’ which is a semi-joke idea that I’ve had kicking around in the back of my head for a few years now: functionally a harem story about an emotionally challenged young woman rescuing a bevvy of mistreated (probably neko) cat boys (and possibly a cat girl or two). It’s going to be a cozy, heartwarming story with (relatively) low stakes. I think.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but the other non-werewolf idea I’ve been thinking on for a while hasn’t gone away: a gender-swapped ‘Beauty and the Beast’ where the ‘beast’ is a vampire princess. That one I know is going to be tragic though, so I definitely want to give myself a break before I start work on it. Moreover, I don’t think I have the writing chops to tackle it yet.
Alright, that’s what I’m working on at the moment, I’ll let everyone know when the outline is finished!
